Between 2007 and 2010, in partnership with Cultura Inglesa, Klaxon was responsible for the development and production of professional training workshops and lectures by professionals from the international audiovisual industry, always as part of the Cultura Inglesa Festival’s programme.
2007
With the support of the Escola Livre de Cinema e Vídeo de Santo André and production by Ouroboros Cinematográfica and Klaxon Cultura Audiovisual, Cultura Inglesa brought the renowned tutor and international script doctor Miguel Machalski to the Festival. In his first time in Brazil, in May 2007, two lectures were given (one at Cultura Inglesa Festival and another in Santo André), as well as a five-day workshop for 12 projects and a two-day mini screenwriting workshop for young students from the Escola Livre de Cinema e Vídeo de Santo André.
2008
After the successful activities with Miguel Machalski, in 2008 it was British Phil Parker’s turn to lead a low-budget screenplay development workshop. Parker also gave two free open lectures during the 12th Cultura Inglesa Festival. The workshop was composed of lessons and private encounters with the directors, focused on the development of eight fiction feature film projects, and counted on the assistance of screenwriting tutors and other professionals, besides a few other group activities. Among the selected participants to attend the workshop were professionals such as Ariela Goldman, Fernando Coimbra, Giovanna Belucci, Henry Grazinoli, José Eduardo Belmonte, Lina Chamie, Mariana Bastos, Mariana Veríssimo and Marina Person.
2009
In 2009, a new documentary training program was organized. It consisted of an intensive course on the international market, on project development and on pitching documentaries by Christinna Burnett, as well as lectures on documentary theory by Bill Nichols.
Focused on the improvement of professionals in the audiovisual market interested in developing their writing tools for projects and presentations, as well as learning more about effective mechanisms to present their projects to international markets both written and orally, the workshop also arranged meetings between these professionals and companies for feedback on their pitches, such as TV Cultura, TV Brasil, BBC Brasil, and Brazilian TV Producers, among others.
2010
In 2010, a videogame screenwriting and project development program was led by multimedia writer Matt Costello, the writer behind some of the most successful games in history. The workshop helped the participants explore the ways in which stories are explored in games and better understand how it can play a role in the gameplay, solidifying an interactive narrative process. After the inaugural lecture, two workshops were held for two distinct levels: one for professionals in the gaming industry and another for beginners.
