Klaxon was founded in 2008 <\/span>with the mission of contributing to the development of the audiovisual sector through the development and production of films and the organization of workshops and exhibitions. <\/span>In its first years of activity, <\/span>the company produced important exhibitions and film festivals in the same period when it started to organize<\/span> workshops and development labs in various formats for professionals from the audiovisual sector. During four years, Klaxon produced project development lab as a part of the Cultura Inglesa Festival programme, and in the meantime, organized the first edition of BrLab in 2011. <\/span><\/p>\n

Between 2008 and 2012, the company put up more than twenty film exhibitions and retrospectives from important directors such as Chris Marker (2009), Marguerite Duras (2009), Luc Moullet (2011) and Peter Forg\u00e1cs (2012), sponsored by Banco do Brasil, CAIXA, the City Hall of S\u00e3o Paulo, among others, and screened at Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, CAIXA Cultural, Cine Olido, Cinemateca Brasileira, in different cities. <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2012, Klaxon started to produce films, dedicating itself to the development and to the production of auteur audiovisual projects. Since then, it has release seven feature films directed by talents from different countries in Latin America, which were shown and awarded in various festivals and had both national and international distribution. Its catalog also features projects which are currently in different stages of development, funding, production and post-production.<\/span><\/p>\n

Klaxon is the company responsible for the annual organization of BrLab - Project Development Lab in Brazil, an audiovisual market and learning event which is a notorious space in Latin America that promotes the development and the acceleration of audiovisual projects and talents. BrLab promotes various workshops and international meetings in its programme, including project and editing development workshops, co-production meetings, and several activities open to the public such as lectures and debates, organized in-person and made available online afterwards to make the event more democratic and accessible. Beyond the main event, BrLab also promotes regional activities in different states of Brasil, publishings and initiatives in partnership with renowned institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n

BrLab also has a publishing label that expands its mission in the dissemination and democratization of content and knowledge. The books launched are focused especially on the area of \u200b\u200baudiovisual scriptwriting, including special editions of the scripts of A Wolf at the Door (Fernando Coimbra, 2013) and The Second Mother (Anna Muylaert, 2015) and a book of interviews with the renowned Cuban screenwriter and script doctor Eliseo Altunaga.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2015, Klaxon was hired by ANCINE through a public call to coordinate, manage and execute eight laboratories for the development of feature-length films and series of fiction, documentaries and animation projects. The laboratories, located in the cities of S\u00e3o Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre, enabled the development of new methodologies for monitoring more than 80 projects in partnership with Ancine over the period of two years. The company developed an expertise in organizing and coordinating project development programs that is been applied in different workshops and iniciatives. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rafael Sampaio is the director of BrLab, as well as a film producer and the founder of Klaxon Cultura Audiovisual. He has worked as a producer and programmer in cultural spaces such as the MIS-SP, the Brazilian Cinematheque, and Cine Olido, among other exhibitions and festivals such as Festival Mix Brasil da Diversidade Sexual, Festival Jodorowsky, Jornada Brasileira de Cinema Silencioso and Mostra Cinema e Direitos Humanos na Am\u00e9rica do Sul, among others. He also works as a coordinator for courses and platforms for audiovisual education, such as the Project Development Laboratories of Prodav 04 for the Brazilian Film Agency \u2013 Ancine\/FSA, as well as for BrLab, an audiovisual project development lab which he created and has produced and directed since 2011. Rafael has produced films such as \u2018On Wheels\u2019 (2017), directed by Mauro D\u2019Addio, and Let It Burn\u2019 (2019), directed by Ma\u00edra B\u00fchler, and co-produced films such as \u201cFiebre\u201d (2022), directed by Elisa Eliash, and \u201cZafari\u201d (2024), directed by Mariana Rond\u00f3n, among others, through Klaxon. He was responsible for the Brazilian coordination of the G\u00f6teborg Film Fund and is a member of the reading and evaluation committee of the Hubert Bals Fund (2022), Proimagenes Colombia (2019), Cinergia (2013), CnCine (2014), among others. Graduated in Film, he completed a postgraduate degree in Audiovisual Studies in Spain, and recently specialized in Audience Design at different institutions.
