Curated by Mauricio Ayres, this project was the open event of the audiovisual calendar of the Year of France in Brazil in April 2009. A selection of 15 films written and directed by Marguerite Duras, most of them then unreleased in Brazil, made up the biggest retrospective of the work of the French director and writer ever made in Brazil. Released on the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘Hiroshima Mon Amour’, written by Duras and directed by Alain Resnais, the program included a special screening of the film followed by a debate with film critic Ismail Xavier, as well as debates and a special publication.
The program was originally screened at Caixa Cultural, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, expanding afterwards to other theatres in the country such as Cine Humberto Mauro (Belo Horizonte), Sala Walter da Silveira (Salvador), Sala P.F. Gastal (Porto Alegre), Cinema da Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (Recife) and CineSesc (São Paulo).
